Diseases characterized by diffuse myocardial fibrosis cannot be evaluated by LGE since there are no reference regions of normal myocardium (Rosario J. Perea et al).
T1 mapping:
- A T1 map of the myocardium is a parametric reconstructed image
- Each pixel's intensity directly corresponds to the T1 relaxation time of the corresponding myocardial voxel.
- Quantification of diffuse myocardial fibrosis.
- Native T1 reflects myocardial disease involving the myocyte and interstitium.
- The use of gadolinium allows measurement of the extracellular volume fraction, reflecting interstitial space.
